Moving forward, Canadian Acoustics will predominantly be available online, marking a significant shift from our traditional hardcopy distribution method. Hardcopy subscriptions will remain available through a premium subscription option for those who prefer this format.</p> <p>For those curious about the rationale behind this decision and the numerous benefits it offers, I encourage you to peruse the <a href="https://jcaa.caa-aca.ca/index.php/jcaa/article/view/4132/3639" target="_blank" rel="noopener">December 2023 editorial</a>, where I delve deeper into this transition. And we are not the only ones in our academic community to undertake such a move: our colleagues from the venerable Acoustical Society of America have <a href="https://jcaa.caa-aca.ca/index.php/jcaa/announcement/view/86" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> their plans to cease altogether printing issues of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) in January 2025, transitioning it to a fully-online publication.</p> <p>All memberships in the Canadian Acoustical Association and subscriptions to Canadian Acoustics have been seamlessly transitioned to an "electronic only" format following the December 2023 issue. This means that each journal issue will be conveniently delivered directly to your e-mail inbox as a fully "web responsive" HTML document (next one shall be the March 2024 issue that is on hold to feature the proceedings of the <a href="https://acousticalsociety.org/ottawa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">joint ASA/AWC2024 conference</a>). CAA members and subscribers will enjoy exclusive access to all published articles, with articles becoming open access to all readership 12 months after their initial publication.</p> <p>Acknowledging that this transition represents a significant departure from our longstanding tradition of mailing hardcopies for over 51 years, we are eager to hear your feedback and accommodate any special requests you may have. In closing, I extend my gratitude for your unwavering support and enthusiasm as we embrace this exciting new chapter for Canadian Acoustics. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.</p> https://jcaa.caa-aca.ca/index.php/jcaa/announcement/view/87 Sun, 21 Apr 2024 15:49:46 -0700 JASA will be a fully-online journal https://jcaa.caa-aca.ca/index.php/jcaa/announcement/view/86 <p>Here is an announcement received from our colleague (and former president of the CAA), Stan Dosso: JASA will be a fully-online journal by 2025!</p> <p>------------------------------------------------</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <table class="col-font-reset ee_element ee_textelement" style="font-size: 14px; text-align: left; min-width: 100%; table-layout: auto;" role="presentation" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td class="element-pad element-bord root-element-pad" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; padding: 10px 20px; border-width: 0;" align="left" valign="top"> <div class="ee_editable" style="color: #333333; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px;"> <p style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; margin: 0px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"> </p> <p style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; margin: 0px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black;">I am writing to give you advance notice that the Acoustical </span><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word;">Society<span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black;"> of America (ASA) will cease publication of printed (paper) issues of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) in January 2025, after which JASA will be a fully-online journal.</span></span></p> <p style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; margin: 0px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"> </p> <p style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; margin: 0px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black;">There are several reasons for this:</span></p> <ul style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"> <li style="margin: 0; word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word;">The number of ASA members and institutions choosing JASA in-print has been steadily decreasing over many years and is now very small relative to the total number of subscriptions;</span></li> <li style="margin: 0; word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word;">Discontinuing JASA in-print will provide a significant cost savings for the ASA in printing and postage charges;</span></li> <li style="margin: 0; word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word;">Discontinuing JASA in-print will also eliminate the in-print color figure charges, making the journal more author-friendly and better configured for Read &amp; Publish institutions;</span></li> <li style="margin: 0; word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word;">Reducing paper printing is more environmentally friendly.</span></li> </ul> <p style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; margin: 0px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"> </p> <p style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; margin: 0px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><span style="word-wrap: break-word; word-break: break-word; color: black;">Please also note that the ASA will also no longer print paper issues of conference programs for similar reasons.
