The project will help people who are physically blind or visually impaired due to old age or disease by providing information of objects that exist around them, allowing them significant freedom and mobility. The project aims to provide visually impaired persons a portable and inexpensive device to assist in navigating their surroundings, using ultrasonic range navigation system (URNS) technology. The URNS technology converge natural brain operative habits with proximity sensors that take advantage of natural brain phenomenon. The URNS scan 180 ° at a time and use an upward ranging detector to locate objects at eye level. The URNS has the capability to sample at 200ms or 20 times faster than a cane. It allows the visually impaired person to walk quickly, when they does not hear tones due to absence of object in their path.}, number={4}, journal={Canadian Acoustics}, author={Gasior, Steven}, year={2006}, month={Dec.}, pages={60–63} }
