Investigations revealed that the ultrasound backscatter from the cell and the substrate were clearly visible and separated in time. The correlation coefficient of the RF-signal was calculated by comparing the first RF-line that was restricted to the cellular backscatter region only. The correlation coefficient was a measure of the similarity of two signals, revealing that identical signals had a correlation coefficient of 1. It was observed that the variations of the integrated backscattered intensity were large for normal cells as compared with apoptotic cells. The larger variations and higher standard deviation for apoptotic cells indicated an increase in activity within the cell during the measurement period.}, number={3}, journal={Canadian Acoustics}, author={Strohm, Eric and Kolios, Michael}, year={2009}, month={Sep.}, pages={168–169} }
