This question is important since the methods used to date have assumed that physical measures of sound are reliable indicators of the effects of noise on people. The work done for this paper has provided an empirical test of that assumption, in the situation where some kind of barrier or shielding is installed between the highway and the residential area. This aspect is important to consider because transportation agencies are turning increasingly to the construction of barriers and buffers, as a method of reducing transportation noise.}, number={1}, journal={Canadian Acoustics}, author={Birnie, Susan}, year={1978}, month={Jan.}, pages={6–15} }
