Abstract

In Europe, `objective' or `performance' based building codes spurred the development of standardized methods to predict the sound insulation of buildings. These models are reviewed and their suitability for North American constructions are examined. The ability of CEN model (prEN 12354-1), DIN 4109 and ONORM 8115 to predict the sound reduction of the transmission and flanking paths is discussed.
