Abstract

A report on the Cold War acoustics is presented. During the World War II active sonar fell short of expectations in dealing with submarines. Various solutions to the submarine detection problems are also discussed. The results suggest that acoustics has many potential military applications, but id does not occupy the place of prominence that it did during the Cold War.
