Spectrogram analysis of circumferential modes propagating around the cicular cylindrical shell immersed in water

Abstract

In this study, we show that the characterization of an elastic tube can be made from the cut-off frequencies of the circumferential waves and the wave velocities in the material constituting the tube. The time-frequency spectrogram is applied to an acoustic signal backscattered by an Aluminum tube for identification of circumferential wave. The cut-off frequencies of the each circumferential wave modes such as A1, A2 (Antisymmetric modes) and S1 (Symmetric mode) are estimated from the spectrogram images, and are compared with those calculated via the normal modes theory. The transverse and the longitudinal velocities of Aluminum material, determined from the spectrogram images, are in good agreement with those given in the scientific literature.
