Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a summary of the acoustical performance requirements integrated into the current versions of the LEED, WELL and Green Globes building rating systems. All these rating systems have undergone substantial updates in the last five years, which include changes to the credits/features associated with acoustics. Some of these changes were to address continued low occupant satisfaction with acoustic performance and/or low interest in the pursuit of the acoustic-related features, due to challenges with achieving the credit/feature requirements. This paper touches on how the changes to the requirements in the latest versions of these rating systems address some of the common challenges from past versions and highlights key design considerations for achieving the new requirements.
