Experimental validation of cyclical noise source analysis by means of temporal gating technique

Considers the problem of the time/frequency analysis of non-stationary, repetitive acoustic signals. The technique of temporal gating is examined by means of a calibration system specially developed for this purpose. The presence of an internal system delay, and its crucial role during the analysis of results, are demonstrated. The importance of the variability of the speed of rotation of rotating machines is also examined. Finally, it is shown how the technique can be used to predict the efficacy of an acoustic treatment of the sourcePublished
