Abstract

A new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for noise exposure assessment is discussed. The purpose of the standard is to provide a method for the measurement of the noise exposure in the workplace. Two approaches are recommended, one based on the tasks being performed and the second by the function. The second approach is especially useful when a worker performs the same tasks at different locations. The standard also details the proper way of using the instrument, calibration proceduces, and number and duration of the measurements.
