Continuity and Renewal for Canadian Acoustics journal

Authors

Abstract

With the present issue of Canadian Acoustics, I would like to inform our readers and members of the Canadian Acoustical Association that I will not be seeking another term as Editor-in-Chief following the upcoming General Members’ Assembly in March 2026.

Serving as Editor-in-Chief of Canadian Acoustics has been both an honor and a privilege. I first held this role from 2014 to 2017, and it has been a pleasure to return for a second term from 2023 to 2026. Throughout these years, I have had the opportunity to work with a dedicated editorial board, generous reviewers, and committed authors who together sustain the quality and relevance of our journal. Scholarly publishing is, at its core, a collective effort built on volunteerism, collegiality, and a shared commitment to advancing our field. I would therefore like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to the journal during these years.

I am particularly grateful to the members of the editorial board and to our copyeditors, whose careful and often behind-the-scenes work ensures that each issue reaches publication. Producing a journal issue can sometimes feel like a solitary responsibility for the Editor-in-Chief, but the reality is that Canadian Acoustics relies on the sustained engagement of many individuals within our community.

Looking back a little further, I am also particularly proud of the work accomplished 2010-2013 when I served as Journal Manager. At that time, the journal underwent a significant transformation as we moved Canadian Acoustics fully online. This effort included digitizing the entire archive of previously printed issues and migrating the journal to a robust and internationally recognized publishing platform, Open Journal Systems (OJS), developed by the Canadian-based Public Knowledge Project (PKP). This transition greatly improved the accessibility, preservation, and visibility of the journal’s content, while anchoring it within a sustainable Canadian scholarly publishing infrastructure.

Today, the journal is entering another important stage in its evolution with the transition to the ÉRUDIT publication consortium. This move will help streamline several aspects of the production workflow while further increasing the visibility and long-term dissemination of the journal’s content within the Canadian and international research ecosystem.

At the upcoming AGM, the membership will be invited to consider the appointment of Pierre Grandjean as the next Editor-in-Chief of Canadian Acoustics. Pierre has been actively involved with the journal since 2019 as a copyeditor and editorial collaborator. Through this work he has demonstrated both reliability and a strong commitment to the journal. He also brings new ideas and enthusiasm that will undoubtedly benefit Canadian Acoustics journal as it continues to evolve.

While few editors could match the remarkable longevity of Ramani Ramakrishnan - our historical record-holder, per the table below - I am confident that the journal will remain in capable hands and will continue to thrive under new leadership.

It has been a privilege to serve the Canadian acoustics community through this role, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the journal and the Association in other ways in the years ahead.

Acoustically yours,
