Mismatch negativity measures of gap detection

Abstract

The feasibility of using event related potentials to measure temporal resolution in adults was examined. Gap detection threshold was measured using a mismatch negativity measure with a right frontal focus. The measured threshold of around 4 ms is in agreement with the behavioral literature. Although a P3a following the MMN, perhaps indicating inadvertent capture of attention, a clear MMN could be measured, suggesting that MMN may be a good method for measuring thresholds in nonlinguistic infants.
