The effects of the familiarity of the language of background music lyrics on a word memory task were studied. Speech and music with lyrics disrupted subject's short-term recall abilities. It was concluded that the extraneous music and speech have an impact on memory and recall for other primary material presented at the same time.

This Licensing Addendum ("Addendum") is entered into between the undersigned Author(s) and Canadian Acoustics journal published by the Canadian Acoustical Association (hereinafter referred to as the "Publisher"). The Author(s) and the Publisher agree as follows:

  1. Retained Rights: The Author(s) retain(s) the following rights:
