Cet article présente une revue des recherches sur la classification des instruments de musique qui ont utilisé le système d'apprentissage automatique. Les deux principales étapes de la tâche de classification automatique sont discutées, l'extraction des
caractéristiques et la classification. La classification des instruments de musique suit le système Hornbostel-Sachs. Dans l'extraction de caractéristiques, les caractéristiques pertinentes couramment utilisées dans la littérature sont répertoriées et organisées dans une taxonomie qui est divisée en fonction du domaine de calcul. Différentes techniques de classification largement
utilisées par les chercheurs sont également présentées et passées en revue.
