Les effets nocifs des bruits impulsionnels sur l'audition font, depuis quelques années, l'objet d'un nombre croissant de travaux de recherche. Cependant, l'influence spécifique des différents paramètres physiques de ce type de bruit est encore très mal connue. C'est vraisemblablement la raison pour laquelle les limites d'exposition aux bruits impulsionnels en milieu de travail ne prennent généralement en compte qu'une ou deux des multiples caractéristiques physiques de ces bruits. C'est aussi pour cette raison que les procédures d'évaluation de l'exposition aux bruits impulsionnels sont complexes et difficiles d'application. Les différents critères d'impulsionna-lité des bruits sont examinés tant en termes de controverses scientifiques que d'application pratique. Une approche globale mais provisoire est proposée dans une perspective de recherche appliquée.
