Abstract

Residential developments adjacent to industrial developments are generally considered incompatible land-uses. However, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), in order to satisfy the demand for more houses, it has become increasingly more common to attempt to locate residential development adjacent to existing and/or proposed industrial developments. The focus of this paper is to provide some insights into the current approvals process, the difficulties being experienced with the current system and the potential solutions.
