Abstract

Fluidized bed drying of pharmaceutical granules using acoustic monitors is described. Acoustic monitoring is non-intrusive, cheap and requires no modification to existing fluidized bed drying equipment if a microphone is externally located. It is useful monitoring tool in high-shear wet granulation, pneumatic transport and rotary drying. The application of fluidized-bed drying monitoring is based on the fact that the sound produced by the collisions of dry granules is different from sound produced by the collision of moist granules.
