Résumé

Le dépistage massif des problèmes auditifs chez les travailleurs exposés au bruit soulève une question majeure en regard de la pertinence de répéter de façon périodique les examens auditifs. La loi québécoise en matière de santé et de sécurité du travail prévoit qu'une surveillance médicale soit établie de façon à prévenir ou à détecter précocement toute atteinte à la santé provoquée ou aggravée par le travail. Dans un contexte de surveillance audiométrique, une telle pratique sous-tend des problèmes métrologiques et éthiques. Une revue de la littérature portant sur les approches individuelles et collectives de surveillance audiométrique a démontré une non-compatibilité entre ces approches et les objectifs de prévention et de sensibilisation pousuivis en santé au travail. Plutôt que d'investir des sommes d'argent considérables dans la surveillance audiométrique, les efforts devraient être davantage concentrés vers d'autres avenues. Par exemple, la promotion de la réduction du bruit à la source représente une suite logique à un bilan de santé auditive tel que préconisé par le CORACQ.
