Abstract

This article describes a competency-based teaching approach used in the course Noise and Hearing offered in the professional master's program in Audiology at the University of Montreal. The author outlines anticipated profile of competencies acquired by students, and learning activities employed to produce these competencies. Although this approach is not the exclusive domain of education in acoustics, far from it, it enables students to take ownership of their role as audiologists working in the field of noise effects on hearing and on health.
