Abstract

The effects of (LIPUS) on in-vivo functional integration of autologus tissue engineered mandibular condyle (TEMC) for replacement of exercised temporomandibular articular condyles was evaluated. The bone marrow stem cells (BMSC) of rabbits, isolated from their femur bones, were differentiated into chondrogenic or osteogenic cells. The cells were seeded into collagen sponges housed into biodegradable extra-cellular matrix (ECM) scaffold to from TEMCs. The urinary bladder matrix extra-cellular matrix (UBM ECM) was then lyophilized and its six sheets were laminated by vacuum pressing. The left temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in each rabbit was exercised under general anesthesia and Xylazine at a rate of 1 mL/kg. The results show a comparable morphological and dimensional features of the TEMC and normal condyle.
