Résumé

This article has been prepared to assist teachers in conveying the means by which sound travels within a room to their students through demonstration and example. The concepts of transverse and longitudinal waves will be examined to provide an understanding of how sound gets from "here to there" in indoor spaces and how it interacts with the room surfaces to create the effects we know of as absorption, reflection and diffusion. It will also lay the groundwork for an understanding of the means by which sound is transmitted through partitions.
