Abstract

Environmental considerations for rooftop noise barrier walls that are used as low-cost, low-tech solution to control rooftop equipment noise from industrial and commercial facilities are presented. Environmental factors influence the structural design of roof systems, and the operation and performance of rooftop mechanical equipment. Snow loading is an important factor that should be taken into account while considering a rooftop noise barrier. However, incorporating a gap below the barrier can help to reduce the additional snow accumulation.
