Dans cet ouvrage, la technique de simulation de source a été utilisée pour calculer la diffusion d'une onde plane par un cylindre avec une impédance de surface qui varie avec la position. L'idée de base de la technique de simulation de source est de remplacer le diffuseur par un système de sources simples localisées à l'intérieur de l’enveloppe du corps original. L'efficacité de cette méthode a été vérifiée en comparant les résultats numériques et des données expérimentales. Le calcul de la diffusion a été faite par les variantes de cette méthode: la méthode de couche unique et la méthode multipôle à un point.
