Résumé

Bien que plusieurs audiologistes œuvrant dans les milieux francophones du Canada rapportent utiliser une épreuve de reconnaissance de mots dans le bruit pour évaluer les capacités d’écoute, aucun outil enregistré n’a été répertorié. Afin de répondre à ce besoin clinique, le but de la présente étude était de développer une épreuve de reconnaissance de mots dans le bruit pour enfants et adultes francophones de l’est du Canada. Le Test de Mots dans le Bruit (TMB) comprend quatre listes de 35 mots et un bruit de verbiage (babble). Le matériel vocal a été choisi pour être accessible aux individus dont le vocabulaire correspond à celui d’enfants de 5 ans ou plus. Les données préliminaires recueillies auprès de sept groupes d’enfants (6 à 12 ans) et d’un groupe d’adultes révèlent que les listes de mots du TMB sont équivalentes au plan des performances mesurées à un rapport signal-sur-bruit de +5 dB. Un effet d’âge est également noté. L’amélioration des capacités à percevoir les mots dans le bruit sera explorée plus en détails lors de l’établissement des données normatives.
